Berries are a great addition to any garden. Selecting the right berry type and variety for both your family and garden setting, however, is critical for success.
Learn how to select blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries for your home garden! Join veteran Clallam County Master Gardener Jeanette Stehr-Green for the Green Thumb Education Series presentation “Berry-licious: Selecting Berries for Your Home Garden,” Thursday, January 8th at the Vern Burton Community Center Meeting Rooms, 308 E. 4th Street in Port Angeles from 1:00 – 2:15 p.m.
During this presentation Jeanette will:
• Highlight the advantages of growing berries in the home garden.
• Describe the growth habits and fruit production of different types of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.
• Discuss some of the major issues related to each of these berry types.
• Identify good references for growing berries in the Pacific Northwest.
Jeanette is a berry enthusiast and has grown strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries on the North Olympic Peninsula for over 25 years. She enjoys eating berries and teaching others about growing berries. She has been a Clallam County Master Gardener since 2003. She writes gardening articles for local newspapers and participates in gardening programs on local radio stations. Jeanette was the 2012 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year and has attained the Lifetime Achievement status with Clallam County Master Gardeners. She received the National Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.
The Green Thumb Education Series “Berry-licious: Selecting Berries for Your Home Garden” is an introduction to the upcoming 2026 Homegrown Berries Series. This 8-part series will run from February 28 – October 24, 2026 and will teach homeowners in detail what they need to know to grow berries successfully in their home garden. The Green Thumb Education Series, sponsored by the Washington State University Clallam County Master Gardeners, is held in person typically on the second Thursday of each month from January through May, and September through November.
